A continuous programme of expansion and refurbishment over the last 40 years has transformed Shap Wells into a unique hotel. First time guests find it hard to believe that this beautiful, large, three star hotel in the middle of nowhere is still a family run establishment - but on your arrival it is impossible not to notice the unique friendliness, informal atmosphere and exceptional hospitality. Cumbria and the Lake District are often referred to as 'the most beautiful corner of England'. Shap Wells is the perfect place from which to explore this 'beautiful corner', some of the country's most spectacular scenery, many historic towns and picturesque villages may be found within an hour of the hotel. Shap Wells has extensive lounges with bar facilities, one of which, the Riverside Lounge (Shown left), overlooks the river Birkbeck and fells. The Salterwath Lounge is designated a no smoking area and the adjoining Fell Bar is a 'pub' type bar with pool table and juke box.
