| Area information |
| Capital of the Highlands, Inverness has good road, rail and air connections and is an excellent base from which to explore the region. With its suspension bridges across the River Ness and old stone buildings, Inverness is a pretty place, well known for its floral displays. Walk down along the riverbanks and you'll find the quiet and peaceful Ness Islands. Cross the river on the little bridges and you can visit Bught Park, where the famous Highland Games are played out every summer. Close by is the Floral Hall, a sub-tropical horticultural extravaganza with a small waterfall and fish. Not far from here, is the ice rink and the Inverness Leisure centre, which houses a swimming pool, gym and climbing wall. Inverness also has an excellent museum and art gallery between the castle and the tourist office. Inverness Public Library is situated near the bus station. |
